Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance Programme 2026/27
Preparing Every Student for Their Future
At Prenton High School, we believe that every student deserves the knowledge, experiences, confidence and support to make informed and ambitious decisions about their future.
Our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme is a golden thread running through the whole school experience. Careers education is not limited to individual events or activities; it is progressively embedded throughout the curriculum, Personal Development, enrichment and wider school life.
Our programme supports students from Year 7 to Year 11 to understand their strengths, discover opportunities, explore different pathways, experience the world of work and prepare for successful transitions into further education, training and employment.
Guided by our school vision, Making a positive difference today to achieve a better tomorrow, we aim to ensure that every student has the opportunity to explore their potential and take confident next steps.

An Inclusive and Ambitious Approach

We aim to challenge stereotypes, broaden horizons and ensure students understand the full range of opportunities available to them.
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
Our careers programme is aligned with the updated Gatsby Benchmarks and informed by the Career Development Institute (CDI) learning framework. Prenton has achieved the Careers Quality Award and uses Compass+, stakeholder feedback, student aspirations, careers-readiness information, participation data and destination information to evaluate and develop provision. We also contribute to regional careers development through our work with the Liverpool City Region Careers Hub and the developing Modern Work Experience EqualEx pilot.

Fortnightly Unifrog Careers Curriculum 2026/27
Building Careers Knowledge, Confidence and Aspirations
At Prenton High School, careers education is a continuous journey that begins in Year 7 and develops progressively through to Year 11. Our Fortnightly Unifrog Careers Curriculum provides every student with regular opportunities to explore their interests, discover career pathways, understand the world of work and prepare for their future.
Delivered through a planned programme of 15-minute, student-led form-time activities once a fortnight, the curriculum ensures that careers learning is embedded throughout the academic year rather than limited to individual events. Using the Unifrog platform, students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make informed choices about their education, training and employment.
How the Fortnightly Curriculum Works
Each 15-minute session follows a simple, consistent structure.
Introduce
The form tutor introduces the activity or question and supports students in accessing Unifrog.
Explore
Students independently complete a planned Unifrog lesson, research task or platform activity.
Reflect and Record
Students save their findings, shortlist opportunities, record achievements or reflect on their learning.
This approach encourages independence, curiosity and personal responsibility while ensuring that students can access additional support when needed.
More Than Careers Research
Unifrog supports students to build a developing record of their interests, skills, aspirations and experiences.
Throughout the programme, students are encouraged to:
- Explore different careers and employment sectors.
- Research further education, higher education and training pathways.
- Understand local, regional and national labour market information.
- Identify personal strengths and transferable skills.
- Record achievements and experiences.
- Prepare for employer encounters and workplace activities.
- Reflect on work experience and careers events.
- Develop informed plans for future progression.
Our fortnightly curriculum is closely connected to the wider Prenton Careers Programme, including careers fairs, enterprise activities, Careers in the Curriculum, employer encounters, Modern Work Experience and personal careers guidance.
Supporting Every Student
We recognise that students have different aspirations, experiences and support needs.
Unifrog provides a structured approach to careers learning, while form tutors and our Careers Team support students who may need additional guidance or help accessing activities.
Participation, aspiration information and student reflections contribute to our ongoing evaluation of careers provision.
The programme is informed by the Career Development Institute (CDI) learning framework and supports our wider work towards the updated Gatsby Benchmarks.
Importantly, online learning complements rather than replaces meaningful encounters with employers, experiences of workplaces, education provider encounters or individual careers guidance.

Careers in the Curriculum
Careers education is a golden thread running through the curriculum at Prenton.
Every subject has a role to play in helping students understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in lessons connect to future opportunities.
Through our Careers in the Curriculum approach, subject teams identify meaningful links between their disciplines, career sectors, employers, further and higher education and the wider world of work.
These connections help students recognise the relevance of their learning and explore pathways they may not previously have considered.
Bringing Careers to Life Through Subjects
Our programme includes careers-related learning across a wide range of curriculum areas.
Science and Mathematics
Exploring careers in scientific research, forensic science, medicine, engineering, finance, data and analytical professions.

Connecting communication, literacy and language skills to careers in writing, publishing, media, translation and international opportunities.

Through curriculum activities, practical projects and engagement with external partners, students are encouraged to develop a broader understanding of the opportunities connected to their subjects.
Learning From Employers and Education Providers
Our careers programme is strengthened by partnerships with employers, further education providers, universities and training organisations.
These relationships help students understand workplace expectations, discover progression routes and develop confidence when communicating with professionals.
Activities include employer-led projects, careers talks, workshops, educational visits, workplace encounters and opportunities to explore academic, technical and vocational pathways.
We continue to develop these partnerships to ensure that careers learning is meaningful, inclusive and connected to the changing world of work.
Supporting Informed Choices and Successful Transitions
Our annual programme is designed to support students at every stage of their careers journey.
Alongside whole-school activities, students may receive additional support through personal careers guidance, Aspire opportunities, On Track+, SEND and EHCP transition planning and targeted intervention.
We recognise that students follow different pathways and that meaningful careers education should help every young person explore their options and make decisions suited to their interests, strengths and aspirations.
