What arrangements do we have in place for the admission of students with special educational needs and disabilities?
Prenton High School follows the Wirral Council’s admissions process, which treats all applications fairly, including those for students with SEND. Having special needs or a disability does not stop a student from being offered a place. If a student has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names Prenton, the school must offer them a place and support their needs. The school identifies students who need extra help and gives them personalised support. Parents and carers are involved in planning from the start, so we can understand each student’s needs and prepare to meet them.
What steps have we taken to prevent SEND students being treated less favourably than other students?
Prenton High School makes sure that students with SEND are treated fairly and equally. We train staff to support different needs and make changes where needed—for example, using special equipment, adjusting lessons, or giving extra time. We create individual support plans for students and make sure they can take part in all school activities, trips, and clubs. We regularly check their progress and listen to their views so we can make improvements and respond to any problems quickly.
How do we support SEND students with accessing facilities across the school?
Our school is designed to be accessible to everyone, including students with physical or sensory needs. We have ramps, lifts, and accessible toilets. If a student needs help getting around or using equipment, we create a plan with their family to make sure they can take part fully in school life. We offer special equipment when needed and adjust the school timetable or classrooms to support easier movement. Staff are always on hand to help during the day, and we review our plans often to make sure everything is working well.
What is included in Prenton High School’s accessibility plan?
The Accessibility Plan shows how we make sure all students can access the school, the curriculum, and information. It includes physical changes like ramps and lifts, teaching changes like using different materials or extra support, and ways of sharing information in different formats. We regularly review the plan and use feedback to keep improving. The plan helps make sure that every student feels included and supported.
